I'm Ba-ack!

I have been away awhile. I don't know what happened to my quiet life. Two surgeries and 2 new grandbabies in 6 months and time just rushed by at the speed of sound! My husband has come through his surgeries well and the babies are wonderful but my crafting life has been on hold.
I am now working on a paperdoll for Valentine's to make with my mother's friends when I go to Fla next month. I will be posting pics soon I hope.
I am still adjusting to Life over 50. It is not for the faint-hearted. What happened to jumping out of bed(okay I never jumped) but getting up and not feeling pain in any part of your body. What happened to feeling as if my time was limitless and I had time to do it all. Oh well, it is January. I usually just try to survive the winter one day at a time. My body was not built to live in the cold!

Yes I know it has been fall for many weeks now but we still have beautiful leaves on the trees and I love November. It is such a month of anticipation. I love Thanksgiving with family and food and all that remembering of past family times. It is so sad that retailers and the media make that jump from Halloween to Christmas and just leave out Thanksgiving so much of the time. I love the colors, the feeling, the crispness in the air like it is freshly created just for us. There is the Joy of the Christmas season to look forward to and that last deep breath before we plunge into the flurry of Holiday craziness. It's good to remember Thanksgiving and to give thanks to God who gives us so much daily.

On to crafting!!! I did win a prize and a nice gift for hosting the hop. Here are some of the cards I made that day for the contest. The prize was one from a random drawing of participants so it wasn't based on merit. I would like to win because my cards were great but maybe next time. It was a great day and Paperwishes.com is very generous with the prizes.

New Cards Again

You are wondering where have I been? I have been spending time with my husband through open heart surgery and the aftermath. He had it on July 7th and is doing well but it is a big ordeal. I hope to never go through it myself.

Finally I am back to making cards and am enjoying it immensely. I just created a canvas mixed media piece called Paris that I am giving my mother. I made my granddaughter a Pillowcase dress. The elephant baby card has a circle in the center and when you open it the baby elephant appears. It is called a Marquee Card and I found out how to do it here. I am very proud of the card although you can't tell how neat it is without seeing it open. I am creating everyday. Unfortunately my craft room is still a disaster but I have hopes of getting it clean this year!! I don't know why I think it will happen, mostly it seems to be getting worse!

Happy Fourth of July

Ok so it is a little early. But I feel somewhat festive after seeing lots of other blog's nice 4th crafts and decorations. I am a major slacker as a blogger and crafter this year. Of course my husband is facing open heart surgery in one week and life is very strange right now.

I barely survived Vacation Bible school and was home for one hour before hubby and I went to the hospital for his chest pains. He is doing ok now but the surgery looms and takes over most of my thoughts. Still it is the Fourth of July weekend and we plan to have a great time.

Here are some of my VBS crafts and some cards I have made lately. The sheep holds coins or secrets and is made from a film canister. There were more cool crafts but I don't have pics now.

Surgery and Rainbows

Well for the first time since I was five years old I had surgery(on May 16th). I came home the same day and have been laying around since. It is not that much fun to have to lay around.
We had a bad storm a couple of days ago and this fabulous rainbow afterwards. After the tornadoes that swept through here a couple of weeks ago I am glad to be reminded of God's protection and how little our damage was compared to others in the county.

In crafting news here is my Mother's day card for my Mom, a get well card and a card for my daughter. I haven't made anything since the surgery but hope to get back to work soon. Vacation bible school has sneaked up on me again and I am getting ready for the big push and panic before it starts.

Secret Garden Tag Swap

I visited my daughter in Central North Carolina for 3 days this week. I had a great time. I got to visit 2 different Mighty Dollar Stores where they have all different kinds of clear stamps and scrapbook embellishments that are only $1. I got about 5 stamp sets. a lot of sets of Jolee's dimensional stickers and lots of glitter glue all at $1 each. I love a good bargain!!
Monday I finally got my tags mailed for the Secret Garden Swap. I never asked if it was supposed to be about the book or just any secret garden so I went with the book because it has always been one of my favorites. Here are my tags. I love tags swaps and always promised myself that when I get them I will display them by hanging a long ribbon and clothes pin each one to it like a garland. This time I am really going to do that. A Joyous Easter to All

It feels like Springtime is really here today. And tomorrow is Easter. No snow covered Easter egg hunts this year. I am waiting for my only granddaughter(3 yrs old) to come and dye eggs with me. Next year there will be 3 but I don't think the new ones will be dying eggs! I love Easter. The day we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ and the beginning of a new world. What a great blessing it is. I have not made much stuff this Easter. Just a sign and one card. Too much going on in my life right now. But I did find a new tablecloth in the closet,(forgot to look in the bag of stuff my mother gave me last year) and decorated my table. So Happy Easter and have a great holiday.

Iris Spring

Here in Greeneville, Tennessee we have an Iris Festival every year. At the theater where I work we have an art display that is all Irises so I have been seeing Iris's a lot. I needed to make cards for the women in my bible study group so thought that Irises would be a good theme. I stamped a stack of Irises and colored them with my watercolor markers and blender pen. It has taken me forever to make the cards but now they are finished. I should be making Easter cards. Here are my Iris cards. HOpe everyone is having a lovely spring!

Spring is Here!

Yes it is Spring here in NorthEast Tennessee. There were many days of lovely warm weather with a bright blue sky and everything was blooming. Now of course we have had 4 days of solid gray skies and cold -- but that is what Spring is all about here. I am not discouraged. I love spring even when it gets cold again. I went to a large Scrapbooking Store in Pigeon Forge yesterday and was there just in time to get to make a card in a free demo. It was fun and I love the card. It is the one with the daffodils. Then I got a new stamp set with the little girl and the cat from Flower Soft. I made the purple card with it and just love the set. NOw I am thinking of Easter and all kinds of spring crafts. I would like to say I took the lovely sunrise pictures from our front yard but I have to admit i would never be up that early. My husband took it them as he went to raise his flag.
I'm off to make more cards. Next week I am starting to clean my craft room for real!! Have a great week!

A Tribute

I haven't been able to post for awhile as just too much had been going on in my life. I did want to pay tribute to a dear friend of mine.

ON February 28th, 2011 my friend Pat Phillips went home to be with the Lord. She has been a great friend to me even though she was 30 years older than me. She has been such an inspiration to me. When I was in my 20's she taught me that it was ok to love dolls even when you were an adult. She encouraged me to make my first soft sculpture doll and even made a kimono for it. She always encouraged me and was so complimentary of stuff I made even though she was a true artist herself. She had been very discouraged that she couldn't sew, paint, or draw much anymore since a stroke a few years ago but did get to make Valentine Paperdolls with us when I was in Florida about a week before she died. She has been a true mentor to me and I just wanted to say thank you to her. I will miss her always.

This is a card I made for my Mom but it reminds me of Pat too.

I am off to Fla in a few hours. Once more I will hurl through the air in a tin can! It has been a hard week: my sister in the hospital, my husband sick, and me trying to get ready to leave for Fla. But tonight I will be there! I will be spoiled by my parents and hopefully much warmer than here although it is a beautiful day here too. Due to all the problems this week I was unable to make Valentines which is very disappointing but here are more of the tags I made for the swap. Valentines On the Brain

Well I love Valentines and the older the better. I love Victorian ones but I especially love the cutsie children's cards from the 30's through 60's. My mother collects them. I recently finished tags for a Valentine Swap(see link at right) and sent them off. Now I can focus on this year's valentine paperdoll class that I will teach when I go to Fla in a few weeks. I think this one will be a garland of 3 dolls to hang up. Everywhere in blog land are lots of valentines and it makes me feel very creative. There will be more to come on the subject. Snowy Day

So I was supposed to work today but the load of snow last night prevented us from having the show tonight and I got to stay Home! I am still recovering from my trips and haven't gotten enough rest yet so I am very happy not to have to go anywhere. The snow is thick on the ground but not wet and clinging to the trees. It is still very pretty. I looked out the window and the sun was shining on this cardinal in the tree and it was so bright it was almost glowing. IT would have made an excellent pic if I was closer but this one is ok. Love red birds in the snow! I also finished making thank yous for Christmas gifts and now can write on them and mail them. I feel like I have accomplished a lot but dreaded craft room cleaning up is calling louder than ever. Hope everyone is warm and dry!

Well I guess I have been to busy to post. I didn't make much stuff this year. It has been cold and snowy for weeks all I want to do is hibernate! I did make some microscope slide jewelery as gifts this year. I have done the soldering myself in past times but this year bought the memory glass frames and I am thrilled that it is so much easier. My next project is the 20 tags for the Valentine Swap. That should be lots of fun. I love valentines. But not to get ahead of myself-- have a safe and Happy New Year! 2011 is going to be a great year!

Where Does the Time Go!

I haven't posted in awhile because time has sped up and now it is only 2 weeks till Christmas. HOw did that happen. It must be that week I lost between Thanksgiving and Dec 1. It was going to be my chill out and prepare for December week but instead I drove 1500 miles! It wasn't bad but then I got sick for a week and now where is my Christmas tree and decorations? In boxes of course!! But I did actually make 12 Christmas Cards today. I also got my 20 White Christmas tags in the mail. That was very exciting. I am posting the pics of the ones I made and sent not the ones I got. It was a fun swap but a lot of work. And Thanks to Jane the person who hosted did an incredible amount of work.
Well it's on to decorating! Hope everyone is having a great holiday season.

12 Days of Christmas Swap

Well I haven't posted because life just gets in the way. I have finally finished my 12 atc's for the the 12 Days of Christmas swap. It seemed much easier when I signed up but they are done. I was assigned 12 Lords a Leaping although I always thought it was 10 lords a leaping but there are probably lots of variations on the song. I am really looking forward to everyone's take on the themes and am glad that I did it. Now to finish my 19 White Christmas tags and start cleaning up for Thanksgiving(Sigh), I can't put it off much longer! Have a great day!

Another Beautiful Saturday in Tennessee

Well it is another beautiful day in Tennessee although very cool. It was in the 30's last night and warmed up to the 60's today. There are still some beautiful leaves out there but I think the peak has passed. My cardmaking challenge today was to make a couple of cards that were quick and easy and the non-crafter could do. The flower cards are the results. All I did was cover the front of the card with Scrapbook paper, stick on the 2 premade flower stickers, cut out an oval and glue it on and then add letter stickers for the greeting. Everything came from Walmart so anyone could do it. The moon card was easy too because it was from a kit but I did emboss the Happy Birthday. It's hard to believe October is gone. Fall speeds by like a bullet train and then it's time for Christmas. I hope everyone is warm and well. Have a great fall Day!

Fall In Tennessee

Every fall my husband and I take a trip to see the leaves and stop somewhere and have supper. This year we stopped off in Jonesborough to see the art in park. It was disappointing in that all the paintings in every booth were very similar,the pottery was so-so and there just wasn't much variety. But the town looks lovely this time of year as you can see in the picture. We ended up not going very far into the mountains because we really aren't that dedicated to driving and looking at leaves. We had heard about a barbecue place from lots of people that is supposed to be the best anywhere. We finally found the place. It was packed so we got our food to go. We ended up meeting my sister and found a park by the river to eat in. The food was ok but the day was gorgeous and it was a nice time overall. Tom and I just don't really have the personalities to spend a day enjoying scenery! It was fun and we don't have to do it again till next year. I did really like this old bridge support (across from the place we picnicked) painted like a train coming out of a tunnel. It was the best art I saw all day. Have a lovely weekend.

Fall

Fall is really here. There is a small nip in the air. The sky is such an intense blue it doesn't feel real and everywhere the leaves are starting to change. It makes me feel so alive, so creative. I am so glad that God decided to create fall.

But on to card making. There really aren't many occasions to send cards for in the fall. You can send Thanksgiving cards but most people don't. So mostly I am making cards that are blank inside so you can write notes. I made all of these last night for my bible study group and still need 5 more. I seem to have picked a word theme for the month - Rejoice- because it seems like all nature is rejoicing. I love the colors of fall and just enjoy making fall cards. Hope you like them too. Back Again

Well I am back from a visit to Charlotte, NC again. I had a nice time although it was brief. Coming through the mountains of Western North Carolina was breathtaking and the leaves are just beginning to change. I got a set of Inkadinkado fall stamps and finally made a card with the cat. I love everything about fall, the colors the leaves, the feel of the air and everyday feels brand new! Here also are the cards I made for Pastor and staff appreciation for church. I had to make them very quickly but I think they were ok. NOw I am off to play with the new goodies I got! Have a great rest of the week.

Fall Love Tree Card Tutorial

Hello Everyone, I belong to a message board at a wonderful paper company called PaperWishes. We are having a blog hop starting tomorrow for National Cardmaking Day. Here is my project for it. There will be another post today about the hop but I dont' really know how to combine them into one. Happy Cardmaking!

Love Tree Fall Card
Tutorial
Supplies:
From Paper Wishes:
1 4 ¾ X 6 ½ inch white card with envelope
fall leaf paper, fall striped paper and Green tag from Autumn Backgrounds book
Celebrate word from Cardmakers Christmas Ultimate Pack
Love Tree Small Stamp
2 Gold Swirl Corners from Christmas Ornament Dazzles

Other Supplies:
Black and Gold Staz-on ink
Clear embossing powder
Small piece mustard colored cardstock
Orange stamp pad and small sponge
Orange marker
2- 6 inch pieces of sheer ribbon(I used green and burgundy)
Stickles Glitter Glue in Crystal and Gold
Glue stick

1.Cut leaf paper to fit front of card. Take gold staz-on and rub on all edges of the paper to give a gold edge. Glue the leaf paper to front of card.
2. Take love tree stamp and stamp on mustard cardstock with black staz-on ink. Sprinkle with clear embossing powder, shake off excess and heat till raised.
3. Take sponge, dab in orange ink and sponge on to branches of trees to give the impression of leaves. Take the orange markers and color in the hearts on the tree if you wish.
4. Cut out rectangle around tree with it centered aprox. 2 ¼ inches by 2 ½ inches. Run the edges through the gold staz-on ink. Glue on front of card about 1/3 of the way up.
5. Cut a 1 inch strip of the striped paper and glue it about an inch below the tree.
6 Cut out the green tag plus the celebrate word and glue the word on the green tag. Punch the hole of the tag where pictured and thread the 2 pieces of ribbon through it and tie. Glue the tag to the striped paper centered on it and the card.
7. Take the 2 gold swirls from the ornament dazzles sheet and put them in the top 2 corners.
8. Take the gold stickles and put four large dots on the corners of the tree square. Next outline the green tag following the line carefully. Take the crystal Stickles and swirl and dot in the branches and leaves of the tree. Let dry fully and your card is ready to send.

I have finally finished my tags for the Dorothy Tag Book Swap(see side bar). I enjoyed making them and am excited about getting the book in return. Fall Day

Yes it is a beautiful fall day here. The sun is shining brightly and the sky is very blue. The work outside continues but there is no mud because it is once again dry. I have that fall feeling of creativeness that creeps over me every year. I feel so inspired but don't necessarily act on it. Why does fall always get so busy and disappear before you know it? Here are a couple of cards I made recently to feed my fall frenzy. The moon card was with a brayering technique I tried. It is harder to do than it sounds but here is the site for instructions. Mud, Mud, Mud!!

I don't like things to be all out of whack. Currently they are doing some work outside and there is Mud everywhere. After no rain for weeks it rained for hours yesterday and everywhere I look is mud.
On the crafting front, Who could craft when I have to look at all this mud? I made some cards last week but have stalled this week. Fall is in the air and I love it! The sky is a crisp blue, the air has a little snap and I feel creative but now I have to go off to work! HOpe you have a great day.

Christmas Challenge

So once again I have finished my Christmas challenge just under the wire. This is a table top display that you can set in the middle of your table and put different things around. I just love these cloth paperdolls I found at the quilt shop! I really want to do fall stuff and will be working on those kinds of things next. Hope everyone has a great day!

I am happy to say that one of my children is feeling creative and has made these great robots out of cigarette boxes. I think they are very cute and I am glad that he is making something. In other news I am still thinking about cleaning my craft room but as for the actual work-- it hasn't really happened yet! Have a great weekend.

Charlotte, North Carolina

We went to visit our daughter this week and went to downtown Charlotte. It was a big surprise. It was very clean, really pretty and had lots of parks and fountains. Charlotte is the banking capitol of the New South and there are a lot of bank buildings there. One of my favorite buildings was the Hearst Tower. Inside it was all black and white marble with gold fixtures and railings. It was very lovely and art deco. There was also the Bank of America Center which had lots of stores, art work and lovely interiors with lots of marble too. There is a park in the middle of the tall buildings called the greene and is really nice in the midst of all that concrete. We also were able to go into the newly renovated St. Peter's Episcopal church. It was built in the early 1800's and has a mosaic of Jesus in tiles, beautiful stained glass and a pipe organ that has 2700 pipes. I fell in love with the angel stained glass window that was made by Tiffany in 1909. It will be the inspiration for my new artwork as I loved the purples and greens. All in all it was a nice visit and I would recommend it to anyone as a great place to visit.

Well the title says it all. I have been making lots of thank you cards and using my new stamps and stuff. I am trying to feel like my life is somewhat organized by Sept 1 because I have observed that once Sept 1 hits you blink your eyes and it is Christmas. Every fall is the same. It goes by in a blur and I never know what happened to it.

Here are my cards. I got a lot of birthday gifts so I am still making thank yous. I refuse to go and buy a card since I have the ability and all the STUFF to make thousands of cards. Have a great DAy.

I just returned from going to the beach with my entire extended family. I could go back to mermaids which seem to be my obsession lately but I won't. We made really great little books from envelopes and old ledger paper. I found out how from Blue girl So check out the tutorial on her blog. I think they are great. You can use any envelope you like and make as many pages as will fit. They make a great little book to go in your purse or even to do a mini scrapbook! Here are some of mine. Have a great weekend!

Patriotic Challenge Doll

To make myself finally create a doll I decided to join the Patriotic primitive doll challenge. It is always disappointing that I don't win when the judges and voting is by other doll makers. I still enjoy my dolls and over the years have sold most of the ones I have made so I guess someone must like them. So here she is. I haven't made many primitive types and usually I don't enjoy painting cloth dolls but this one was really fun. I am off to the beach with the entire extended family where I hope to make mermaid paperdolls and envelope books with my young nieces. More about that to come.

Summer is Really Here

Never let me say again that I have a black thumb. I have kept this pink geranium alive and re- potted it since I got it from my granddaughter for Mother's day. I have been too busy to realize that it really was summer but now most of my commitments are over. I can clean and create, I hope. Here is my Victorian Paper ornament. I meant to sew one but time is so fleeting. I wonder what happened to the lazy days of summer. I have been so busy this June. Mermaids on the Brain!

Mermaids on the brain. I have a special affinity and love of mermaids. My favorite fairy tale is the real Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Anderson not that sappy sugarzied version by Disney with the happy ending. In the real fairy tale she dies as a sacrifice rather than kill the prince. Anyway I shouldn't get started about that. The real reason I love mermaids is because the mermaids taught me how to swim when I was 5. No I am not insane. We lived 12 miles from Weekie Wachee in Florida. During the daytime the mermaids from the show at the Spring of Live Mermaids taught(as a side job) locals how to swim. We learned in the icy water of the springs. I was always fascinated by the giant conch shell that was sometimes on the beach. I didn't realize that it was from the show. So I love mermaids. Currently I am entered into a mermaid paperdoll swap plus I have just made proto type mermaid paper dolls with my mother for her doll club to try making and I just got a lovely mermaid stamp.

When I was a little older we would go to Webb City Saint Petersburg, Fl the worlds biggest department store. It had a display that was like a giant cave and you could look thru the openings and see what was in it. There was a beach and manequins that were mermaids and pirates. There was a treasure chest with pirates treasure and a voice over of a woman singing and talking. It was very real and exciting to an 8 year old.

I am currently trying to get back into cloth doll making and I hope to make mermaid dolls first. Of the pictured mermaids my mother made the bottom one. I am so proud of her for making stuff with me. I think I like hers best!

Well we're here in lovely Helen, Georgia staying at the Loreley Timeshares. The grounds are beautiful this time of year with lots of green stuff, flowers and geese. We are thrifting a lot and have made some great finds. I am using windows 7 so I don't really know what I am doing with pics but here are a few. Got my cards from Missy's card swap(see Sidebar) yesterday. They are great. Not a disappointing one in the bunch. Here are a couple of pics. I have been making stuff slowly. I really want to get in there and get to work but life keeps getting in the way. I am going to Helen, Ga to meet my parents on Monday and spend a week of Thrifting and maybe a little crafting. Then Friday we're are moving on to North Carolina to see my daughter the vet(homeless parrot on side bar). Looking forward to a great week. Well I was finally able to stay home ALL DAY! Of course this will be the last day for about a month but I enjoyed it. All the new goodies made me really want to make cards and I did. The owl card was a challenge to use a border punch in a masculine card. I used my Martha Stewart eyelet border. Who'd have thought it would work out? Happy Mother's Day Everyone!

Goodies in the Mail

No this isn't blog candy. It's great stuff and it's all for ME! I got a notice in the mail box that I had a package. I thought it was from the card swap so I was happy about it but when i got to the PO it was a big box that contained these goodies. It was from my wonderful daughter and husband who live far away. I am so thrilled with it. The box is very large and has Hydrangeas and birds on it(love both) and it even had Prima flowers in it. I have been wanting some of these but not able to afford them. It is a great gift and it is all stuff I love. Hope everyone has as happy a day!

Saturday's Vintage Finds

I went to Garage sales and Church sales with my DIL and 2 year old granddaughter. It was a fun day and I found some vintage stuff. I love these Polka dot coffee mugs. I will use them to hold something in my craft room. I have a confession to make. I love cardboard boxes, especially old ones. This pin box has such nice printing, graphics and colors and then it was filled with old beads and earring parts. I also like tins a lot and this blue dutch looking one is very nice. I found a lot of seam binding which works great as ribbon in card and dollmaking. It was a good day. Hope everyone has a good week.

Vintage Finds

Well since according to many bloggers I read it is officially yard sale season. I went to the Library book sale tonight. The hard backs are up to $2 and the paperbacks $1 and whoever priced the special books was out of their mind. They were majorally overpriced. I did find a few gems and plan to go back for fill a bag on Saturday to find books for altering(not that I have ever been able to actually do that to a book!) This children's book has lovely images that i will use. It is from the '50's. The teen book is hilarious. It is called "Here's to you, Miss Teen, Guide to Good Grooming." I love the fact that different sections of it have different colored pages. But the tips about behavior are just funny. I think you can read this page if you click on it and enlarge it. All in all it was a great day. Almost finished with my 10 cards to mail tomorrow. Have a lovely day!

Ahhh, Spring in east Tennessee!! Last week it was 75 some days and this week you can't go out in short sleeves. At least everything is green now. I have made 4 cards of the ten for Missy's card swap. I am happy with them. I also made a paperdoll for the butterfly wing swap but will wait to post it till after it is sent.

The dreaded craft room clean has begun but very slowly. How can i clean when my stamps and papers are waiting there calling my name. Have a great day!

Bargain Saturday

Well it is a lovely weekend now but rainy and cool when I got up. Decided to go check out a church sale down the road. Last weeks sales were very disappointing. Lots of ugly ceramic stuff and everything was overpriced. There was a lot of great stuff at this one however. Because of the dreaded craft room cleaning hanging over my head I was very conservative. Just purchased 3 things but they were a real bargain. This set of hat boxes, cute bunny and chick salt and pepper shaker and a yellow box that holds file folders(not shown). All that and a gravy biscuit for $3.

Yesterday went to my friend Renee's down the hill and worked on my 10 cards for the swap I am in. The vintage lady one is using my Stamp from Paperwishes. She is one of my favorite stamps. Hope everyone has a great day. I am so glad it is spring!

It just occurred to me that I didn't post my doll in a cigar box. It was a lot of work and I enjoyed teaching it to my mom's friends. I really liked how she turned out. I may do a fairy like this one day but right now I have too many other projects going on.

We went to Concord/Charlotte North Carolina to visit daughter and hubby this week and I was able to go see Alice in Woncerland. It was my first IMAX 3D experience and I really enjoyed. Special effects aside I loved the clothes and the colors. Even the white queen's horse was decked out in lovely lace. I sent off my tags for the Alice tag book swap(see sidebar) and am looking forward to receiving it soon. I can't say enough about the movie. I enjoyed it more than I expected to. Also had a great time overall with a little thrifting thrown in. It was a good time.

My Mews

This is Gus. She is the smallest of our many cats. She is very special. I have promised myself that I would never get stuff done and grow artistically if I didn't create something everyday. I promise myself I am going to do it but then I can't make myself go down that long hallway to my craft room even though I really want to. I enjoy every minute in there. When I am at work at my job I am always wishing I was there in my craft room.

This is where Gus comes in. She LOVES the craft room. She likes to prowl or sit in the chair with me and check out what I am doing. But you're wondering, how does that make her my mews(muse)? Every time I walk towards the craft room she runs ahead of me eager as any puppy to get in the room. Usually that isn't where I am headed but she is so eager to go that I feel guilty if I don't at least take her in there once a day. She searches through stuff and finds stuff I have forgotten about. Her favorite craft supply is a nice chenille stem but she is also fond of a good foam backed rubber stamp and can play with one for hours. If she had thumbs she would probably be making stuff right along with me. She is my mews!

Ok I know it isn't even March yet so this might be a little premature for St Patrick's day but I was in Fla last week, Very cold, and discovered these leprechauns at a flea market. They are ceramic and probably hand painted but I fell in love with them and with my new theory of buying things that i love I know i had to have them. At $1 apiece I thought i could swing it. Of course that doesn't mean I have finished with Valentine's day. I am working on a paperdoll on a heart candy box. It will be for next year if I can still find it then! Now I am off to babysit. Well I have finished my Paperdoll in a Box for my class but will show it next time. I messed up my blog banner so have to figure out how to fix it soon, but 5 More Days and I am going to Florida. Have bunches to do. Anyway after visiting so many wonderful Vintage blogs of people that love to go to Estate sales, garage sales, flea markets and thrift stores and share their finds i thought I would today. I went to a thrift store today and got this wonderful stuff except the shoes. They were $2 at Walmart and they're green! Who could resist. So these are my wonderful finds of the day. The tray($1) is metal and made in england. I have never seen a paisley tray before so I had to buy it. And I keep falling across yellow pitchers($1 each) so I had to have them too. Almost forgot the other great find. A bag of these little bottles about4 inches tall. don't know what I will do with them but they sure are cute. I am sure I can find a craft project that they are perfect for!

Yes it is snowing yet again here in East Tennessee. This is the time when I ask what is a native Floridian doing living here. This is the coldest winter with the worst snow we have had in a while. Well on to creative stuff. Here are several images from a 1910 magazine that I thought I would share. They are really lovely and could be colored in in lots of lovely colors. Also a pic of the mountains out my front windows to share how pretty the snow is even if I am already very tired of it. It has snowed a lot more since I took this at noon. Okay maybe I have made 10 cards. That is with working all day and most of them being half done. It's the deciding what I want to go on them that takes so long. Only 35 more to go. I am very excited. Today I put a roast in the crock pot and I am staying in my craft room all day. I just tried a Split Negative Embossing technique I learned here http://stamptv.ning.com/video/split-negative It worked very well and I hope you can see it. There are silver lines of glitter in the background too. I love learning something new. There were a couple more I am trying. No more snow. Just cold but sunny. I am making Christmas cards all day so there may be more to come before I sleep.

Well I am sending out some Thanksgiving Cards. The last 2 have digital images i bought from Seneca Ponds Crafts on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/shop/SenecaPondCrafts She is a great seller. The first one I made using techniques with alcohol inks on the free Webisodes on Paperwishes.com. This is a great site and I have learned a lot from their videos. The crow one has flocking on the crows and I used my new leaf stamp that I love. Can't believe it is almost Thanksgiving. Where has the time gone. I like the card but it was very hard to follow the sketch completely. I am having all kinds of trouble with scanning and picture taking. Everything is coming out too dark. I am hoping to make more Thanksgiving cards soon. Everyone seems to forget about Thanksgiving after Halloween. I love vintage images and got this one from a very old box of Christmas cards. It was first vintage paper item I bought. I realized that I loved vintage paper and since then I have collected a lot. I think that's a good thing?

Apparently blogging takes a lot of time and attention and I probably don't have the Stamina. have been making lots of cards lately but at the moment am stuck with the dreaded studio/craft room cleaning and organizing. I really believe that that the solution is to buy more storage containers but so far that hasn't worked. But as for creativity here are some of the cards I have made in the last week or so. my daughter gave me some great glittery paper from Paperwishes.com and I really love it. I made several of the cards with it. Back to the grindstone.

Bible School AGain

Yes it is time again. I am getting ready for bible school starting on Sunday. The theme is Boomerang Express and I am in charge of crafts. I waited to long to order boomerangs to paint and guess what? There are none left on the face of the earth!! I had given up on them till our music minister graciously offered to cut them out of wood for me so now we will have Boomerangs after all. I spent time today making the banner sign in the pic. I want to make one for my house that says Happy 4th but it will have lots of color glitter and ephemera with red glitter letters. Anyway back to making samples for the classes. Some of the oriental trading kits are great. The crocs are from their kits. Back to the grindstone!!

I saw a purse in a magzine made from a hankie and tried it myself. It is pretty but not very practical. I think i will try a round gathered one. The purse is just the hankies folded and sewed up the sides and then tacked to a felt lining. AT least I am making something!!

Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

Well I have certainly neglected writing on this but it is time. I volunteered to make shoes for a friend of my mother's and ended up making 50 pairs. They were a lot more time consuming than I thought and I had my friend Renee and her daughter Elizabeth helping me. It was a challenge but felt good to get it done. Now I have no fear of making doll shoes although mostly I have been making paperdolls instead of cloth.

Now its on to bible school crafts. For the younger ages I am doing prepackaged crafts but wanted to do something different with the middle school age children so one of the projects will be memory bible verse books out of brown paper lunch bags. Here are pics. You make the books out of stacks of paper lunch bags that you sew down the middle. The open ends of the bags give you pockets which i put tags with bible verses on. You can pull them out and read them. YOu can cover the pages in card stock and you can't tell that they are made from bags. I think the kids will have fun making them!! My next project I hope is a paper doll in a cigar box but probably not til bible school is over!!

New Swap

So in the hope of inspiring my doll club, used to all live here and now are all far away, to keep in touch and create too, I have sponsored a swap. It is a paperdoll for Valentines sort of and it has to have 2 sewing notions on it and a heart. Here is mine. They aren't due to be mailed until the 12th but I am ahead------Yes early. I am going to Fla on sunday and need to get everything done before I leave. Also am doing a paperdoll workshop for Valentines day so am slowly working on Queen of hearts paperdoll that i will post soon. I feel creative again!!

So I had to take this picture. I made these 3 paperdolls using a template from Valerie Brincheck who kindly drew them for my art doll group. I love them like this and would like to do something with them this way but they are destined to be angels. i am of course making Christmas presents still. The backs of the other two are also musical scores. Anyway I like the way they look now.
Why is it so hard get start making stuff when i love to do it more than almost anything. Now that I am started i don't won't to stop, don't want to sleep or eat(much) until I am finished. If I could only figure out how to get started. Now i have so many ideas flying thru my head I am dizzy. Back to work!!

Angel Ornaments Made

Yes I finally made something that wasn't paper. I made 2 angels from vinatge hankerchiefs for my grand niece and granddaughter's first Christmas ornament. Ok they aren't babyish but I like them. my pictures make them look very harshly or brightly colored but they are not. They are very soft looking. I wish I was better at pics but I guess I will struggle along. I feel so good having actually made something. I hope to make a doll too but probably from a cut-out because of the time factor. nothing like doing everything 3 days before Christmas. Nothing new here!!

Yes it is December 20th in reality and i have now made 10 Christmas cards and have not sent any. Yes it is the story of my life. But I am happy with them. I am putting the pic of some. The bird one is my favorite. I used rub-ons from Michael's! I do love rub-ons especially when they work well. Now it is very late and so to bed. I need to make my Granddaughter a first Christmas ornament and a doll. Sure it's only five days. I love pressure!!

Vintage Christmas Decor

So for creativity today I started decorating for Christmas. I found this stuff in my storage rooms and i have no recollection of buying it or seeing it before but i am guessing that it came from a flea market or garage sale. Anyway i like the Vintage look so that is my dining table for now. I hope to work on my cards soon but not tomorrow. I work at a performing arts center and we have our last show before the New Year, it is a musical review like the rockettes and I am greatly looking forward to it although it will be a long day at work!! The decorating has helped get me in the Christmas spirit at least.

As it turns out my mother took this great picture from our guest room while she was here. I am so impressed and think it is a great picture. I think I am going to print it and hang it in my studio or bedroom. my mother has lots of hidden artistic talents that she hides!!
Lest you think I am not doing anything creative I am proud to say that I have done something everyday, although truthfully i had a very long day at work yesterday and so the only thing i did was print out my verse for my Christmas cards. As of now I have finished 7 actual Christmas cards! This is great progress for December 13. Well back to work on cards. I hope to make at least 35. WE will see. My new plan is to streamline my cardmaking. I needed to make 12 thank you cards so I thought I could make them in 2 hours. In 2 hours I made 3 but I have gotten faster. These are the pics of all the cards I have made. Now I am on to Christmas cards. I like to take a blank card, cover the front with Christmas paper of some kind and then use an image cut or copied from an old card and then embellish and of course add glitter. I get lots of great images free every week from Dover. You just go to their website and sign up for the weekly sampler

Great stuff to play with. I use stamps on the inside of the cards and sometimes for the outside. I have a bunch of new Christmas word stamps thanks to my Dad, that i intend to use. And always on the inside of the front i put a printed out bible verse. the same one on every card each year. Haven't picked one yet this year. Last year was from Titus: "For the Grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men." Great verse, maybe my favorite. Anyway my plan is to do Something creative everyday this month except when i go to Fla at end of month.

Yes I have done it. I finally made something new. This is amazing considering my husband had a heart attack on Sat. He is doing well and home now. I had to make a Birthday Card for someone at work and so I really did something creative. I am posting a pic of front and inside and then a free vintage image that I used. I have a lot of really old neat pics that came into my possession when someone found them in a house they bought and were going to throw them away. Anyway the card was simple to make and I am happy with it.

Okay maybe I was over optimistic about actually making something today. I hoped that the blog would inspire me to create everyday which is important to keep your creativity flowing easily. I am what they call in this part of Tennesse "down in my back" and have been having lower back trouble for a week so I have spent most of it flat in my bed on my back. Now that I am back at work I have to take it easy at home. Good excuse any way. So I am putting here another fav paperdoll that i made for a swap last year on the now defunct paper art list called fabrications. She is the Queen of the Harvest Moon Ball. anyway I like her but was also very happy with the one I got in return. And then there is a Vintage Christmas card image for anyone who likes that sort of thing. I love Vintage greeting cards, especially from the 30's thru the 50's so will share images periodically. Well it is back to bed and resting my back. Soon I will be making something new I'm sure!!

Well this is my first post and I have no idea what I am doing. It is Glorious Autumn here and the leaves are beautiful. I haven't made anything in a week because I have been flat on my back in bed. I am posting one of my favorite paperdolls I have made. Her face is from a copy of a rubber stamped image but otherwise she is all from my own mind. Look for something fallish coming soon.
